“Hay fever put my back out!”

I was supposed to meet up with a friend tomorrow, but sadly, this is not to be. Why? She sent me an apologetic email this morning to explain that her hay fever was bad and that during a sneezing fit, she had put her back out. In my work as a sports and remedial massage therapist, I hear all sorts of crazy stories about how people have hurt themselves. I’m no longer surprised, although often highly amused! This is not…

A story of #tennis #elbow in #Exeter

I’m having one of those days when nothing goes to plan, but maybe that’s not all bad. My cleaner has just come and she’s in agony with tennis elbow, with pain an swelling going all the way down the outside of her forearm (the wrist extensor muscles). I’ve just spent a quick few minutes at the end of her shift doing some myofascial release, gently massaging in my Nerve Magic oil and have given her an exercise to do. She…

Celebrating #StressAwarenessWeek with #massage and #aromatherapy in Exeter, Devon

I’m celebrating #StressAwarenessMonth by offering new, improved bargain prices for my treatments . Having a one-off massage can be a pleasant and relaxing experience. However, to combat the long-term effects of stress, such as poor digestion, low immunity, low mood and poor sleep, a course of massage treatments at regular intervals, such as fortnightly or monthly, may have more long-term benefits, by helping to rebalance your nervous system. The essential oils which I use for aromatherapy help enormously with stress, as their…

A Festive Aromatherapy Massage

Have you ever thought about having a holistic aromatherapy massage with a Christmas theme? I had the pleasure of doing this for a client this time last year and he loved it, so now I’m offering the same to you. Imagine lying on a comfy couch with a heated blanket warming you right down to your toes; being massaged with Christmassy oils, like cinnamon, orange, Christmas tree and frankincense; your favourite Christmas carols are playing quietly in the background. After…

Aromatherapy and Conventional Medicine: Working Together

I have been trying to extract a pearl of wisdom from an extracted wisdom tooth over the last couple of weeks. The process has not been exactly simple. Firstly, the extraction of an impacted, decayed, partially erupted wisdom tooth is never straightforward. (This means that the tooth was turned over on its side, rotten and had not fully come through the gum.) Secondly, the remaining gap developed an infection of the underlying bone, known as a dry socket. As a…

Enjoying the sun with Aromatherapy

Have you enjoyed all the hot weather we’ve been having? Personally, I love it and can’t get enough sunshine. If you are a sun worshiper like me, then you will be pleased to hear that aromatherapy offers several ways to naturally protect your skin from the sun’s rays and also to help it heal if sunburn creeps up on you. For the most part, it is not good to apply oil to your skin before going out in the sun.…

#DiabetesAwarenessWeek and AromatherapyAwarenessWeek

As these two awareness weeks coincide, it makes sense to focus on aromatherapy and massage treatments for clients with diabetes. Aromatherapists would never claim to treat diabetes and clients receiving complementary therapies should continue to use their medication as prescribed by their doctor. Interestingly though, I had one client with type I diabetes, who had a nifty gadget, which measured her blood glucose levels and pumped insulin into her as necessary. She came to me mainly for her muscular aches…
